Anuvākasaṃkhya

Apāmārjanastotra

This is a stotra text that appears in the Viṣṇu-dharmottara Purāṇa (as mentioned in the colophon, folio 18b). It is composed in the form of a dialogue between Dālabhya and Pulastya. The stotra praises various forms of Lord Viṣṇu and the Sudarśanacakra, the discus weapon of Lord Viṣṇu, which is invoked to purify the mind and body from sickness, evil spirits, and planetary influences. This Ms. is written in 8-11 lines per folio. Cover and back page contain title. Title also present in colophon (f. 18A). Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins.




Apamṛtyuharastotra

This is a stotra text praising Lord Śiva, composed by Mārkaṇḍeya (as mentioned in the colophon, folio 1v). It is believed that chanting this stotra helps dispel the fear of death, promotes good health and longevity, and protects against accidental death. The text appears to function like an amulet. This Ms. is written in 10 lines per folio. Title present in colophon (f. 1B). Mistakes are blacked out.




Āsavādhikāra

Āsavādhikāra is a text which discribes the preperation and properties of Āsava and Āriṣṭa which are special self fermented alcoholic drinks using herbs, jaggery and other ingredients. The concoctions are known to have long shelf life and quick action. It is believed to cure variety of ailmints like digestive issues. The text is probably inspired from reputed Ayurvedic works of Caraka (Caraka Saṃhitā), Suśruta (Suśruta Saṃhitā), Vāgbhaṭa (Aṣṭaṅga hṛdaya). This Ms. is written in 17-19 lines per folio. Cover page is blank. Title present in the begining (f. 1B). There are double black vertical margins on each side of the folio. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections and additions in the margins. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting. Some folios are rubbed with yellow turmeric powder.




Aṣṭādhyāyī

Aṣṭādhyāyī is a grammar text or Vyākaraṇaśāstra written in Sūtras by Pāṇini. The text consists of 8 Adhyāyas (Chapters) and each adhyāy consists of 4 Pādas (Sub-chapters). The text contains about 3995-3997 Sūtras including the 14 Maheśvara/Pratyāhāra Sūtras a type of compressed Varṇa Mālā (Vowel and Consonant list). Depending on the Ms. two Sūtras may be treated as one at various places in the text. Aṣṭādhyāyī is part of the 6 Vedāṅgas (Imagined body parts of the Vedic texts in the form of a person that is Vedapuruṣa) which are listed as Chanda (Feet of the Vedas), Kalpa (Hands), Jyotiṣa (Eyes), Nirukta (Ears), Śikṣā (Nose), Vyākaraṇa (Mouth). This Ms. contains Maṅglācaraṇa in (f.1B), Pratyāhāra Sūtras, Sūtras of Adhyāya 1 and subsequent Pādas are in (f.2A), (f.5B), (f.10A), (f.14B); Adhyāya 2- (f.19B), (f.24A), (f.25B), (f.30A); Adhyāya 3- (f.34A), (f.42B), (f.52A), (f.60A); Adhyāya 4- (f.65A), (f.72B), Pāda 3 (f.81B) is incomplete, it ends with sūtra 4.3.160 Gopayasoryat, Pāda 4 (f.89A) is also incomplete, it starts from sūtra 1.4.64 Bahvacpūrvapadāṭṭhañ; Adhyāya 5- (f.95B), (f.101B), (f.108B), (f.114A); Adhyāya 6- (f.122A), (f.132A), (f.140B), (f.147B); Adhyāya 7- (f.154B), (f.158B), (f.163B), (f.168B); Adhyāya 8- (f.172B), (f.176B), (f.181A), (f.187A). This Ms. is written 5 lines per folio. There are double red vertical margins on each side of folio. Cover and back page are blank. The (Pūrna Virāma) full stop style vertical brackets are in red. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Some corrections in the margins. The Ms. is dated in (f.190B) 1866 Vikrama Saṃvata mārgaśirakṛṣṇa 10 (1809 CE, Sunday, 31 Dec) written in red.

Aṣṭādhyāyī Turīya 1-4 Adhyāya 1 is the 1st chapter of the grammar text Aṣṭādhyāyī written by Pāṇini in Sūtras. The Complete text consists of 8 Adhyāyas (Chapters) and each adhyāy consists of 4 Pādas (Sub-chapters).This Ms. contains Maṅglācaraṇa, Pratyāhāra Sūtras, Sūtras of Adhyāya 1 and subsequent Pādas in folio(1b), (2b), (3b), (5a). This Ms. is written in 10 lines per folio. Cover page contains title. Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Significant syllables and words rubbed with orange powder for highlighting. Aṣṭakavargasṛṣṭi

Aṣṭakavargasṛṣṭi is a treatise on Hindu astrology and devination used to determine the strength of Grahas (celestial bodies) mainly planets in a birth chart and their potential impact on different scenarios or areas in life with respect to the chart. There are tables drawn with red lines in (f.3A & 3B) which help in doing that. This Ms. is written in10-12 lines per folio. Title present in Mistakes are covered with yellow or blacked out. Utsarjanopākarma

This Dharmaśāstra text discusses the Vedic rituals of Upākarma and Utsarjana. Upākarma refers to the beginning of Vedic studies, while Utsarjana marks their cessation. These two rituals are associated with the study period of the Vedas, which, according to different sources, varies from five and a half to six and a half months. The text explains the rituals performed during this period (History of Dharmashastras. P V Kane. vol. II part II. p.807). In the colophon, the manuscript mentions that the text is part of the Prayogapārijāta, but the scribe did not mention the author's name. It is possible that the author could be Narasimha. The scribe records his father's name as Govinda Bhaṭṭa, and his own name as Tukaṃ Bhaṭṭa. This Ms. is written in 7-10 lines in the 1st text & 8-10 the 2nd text per folio. Cover & back page both contain title enclosed inside a frame with flowers and vines in red. There are double red vertical margins on each side of the folio. There is additional text in the margins written vertically. The Ms. is dated Śaka 1702 in folio(55B). Cover and back pages are illustrated.




Jaiminikṛta aśvamedha

This work is ascribed to Jaimini, one of the disciples of Vyāsa. It is influenced by Vyāsa’s Mahābhārata, specifically the Āśvamedhaparva, but Jaimini’s version focuses more on ritualistic and philosophical aspects. The text contains 68 adhyāyas (chapters) and primarily narrates the episode of the Aśvamedha ritual (horse sacrifice), which was performed by the Pāṇḍavas after the war in Vyāsa’s version. This manuscript contains 5200 verses. The woner of the text was Raghunāthaśāstrīgorehinduḷekara. This Ms. is written in 12-13 lines per folio. Cover page and back page contain title. Title present in colophon (f.191a), begining of the text and marginal abbreviations. There are double red vertical margins on each side of the folio.
