Mānavadharmaśāstra

Popularly known as the Manusmṛiti, it is attributed to the legendary first man and lawgiver ‘Manu’, and is the most authoritative text of dharmaśāstra or Hindu law. It was composed between the 2nd century BCE and 3rd century CE, and is written in (śloka) verses.

"This is the 12th of 18 parvas. Traditionally it has three subparvas: Rājadharma, Āpaddharma-anuśāsana and Mokṣadharma, but this manuscript includes Dānadharma. The text describes kingly duties and conduct through which one may attain mokṣa (release)."

It describes the victorious Pāṇḍavas lamenting the enormous toll of the war, and the anger of the three Kaurava survivors."

The second of 18 parvas, this describes the palace and assembly hall (sabha) built by Maya at Indraprastha, the expansion of the Pandava empire, and the game of dice between the Pandavas and Kauravas, where Yudhisthira stakes everything and loses, leading to the exile of the Pandavas.
