Gītagovinda is a 12-cantos lyrical poem about the love sports of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā.Jayadeva was the court poet of King Lakṣmaṇasena of Bengal (c. 1185–1205). It is an incomplete manuscript. It has an intermediate colophon for sarga 5 (folio 38b).Corruption occurs from folia 40 to end, corresponding to sarga 6–8 in the Nirnaya Sagara Press edition (Bombay 1904)."

"An alaṁkāra text extended into 10 chapters (ullāsas) by Mammaṭa upto Parikarālaṁkāra in chapter 10, and the rest by Alaka or Allaṭa, who some claim wrote earlier parts as well. The commentator Govinda Ṭhakkura belonged to the Ravikara family in Mithila. He was the elder brother of poet Śrīharṣa and Rucikara. He was given patronage by Bhavānanda Rāya (1450). The manuscript has only the second ullāsa upto 2.4."
