Hitopadeśa
EAP1023/17/15 Language : Sanskrit Scripts : Devanagari
A collection of fables by Nārāyaṇa Paṇḍita, which this manuscript attributes to Viṣṇuśarman (author of Pañcatantra). Of its four books, this manuscript contains the first, ‘Mitralābha’ (on winning friends), and the first story of the second, ‘Suhṛdabheda’ (on losing friends).
Vargacakra

This has astrological charts that may be part of a larger jyotiṣa work. Folios 5–6 explain how to identify an infant’s nakṣatra and gaṇa (presiding deva, manuśya or asura). Folios 9v–15v mark out auspicious and inauspicious times in the seven days and nights of a week.

Gṛhyasūtra

A manual on domestic religious ceremonies performed by Hindu male and female householders before the fire. This manuscript contains chapters from the first of three kāṇḍa-s, from ‘sthālīpāka’ (Kaṇḍikā 1) to ‘proṣyāgatasyakarma’ (Kaṇḍikā 18).
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa Uttarakāṇḍa

An abridged (‘saṁkṣepa’) account of the events of the Rāmāyaṇa Uttarakāṇḍa, narrating Rama’s banishment of Sita from Ayodhya, the birth of their sons, and training by Vālmīki. The first few slokas invoke Bhagavatī, Śiva and Rāma.
Nirṇayasindhu

An incomplete manuscript of Kamalākara Bhaṭṭa’s encyclopedic work of dharmaśāstra, composed in 1612 CE as a guide to the proper times for acts of piety. This manuscript includes chapters from the first of three pariccheda-s, covering ṣoḍaśakālabheda, saṃkrāntinirṇaya, malamāsanirṇaya, paribhāṣā and pratipadādinirṇaya. The author was grandson of Nārāyaṇa Bhaṭṭa, whose Tristhalīsetu he cites, but differs from him on several issues (PV Kane 1971: 935)
Prāyaścittenduśekhara

A dharmaśāstra text on the performance of prāyaścitta or ritual atonement, composed by Kāśīnātha Upādhyāya of Pandharpur (d. 1805–06 CE), as an abstract of ‘Prāyaścittaprayogasāra’ by his father Ananta Upādhyāya. The author declares at the start that he composed this work for beginners (̍bāla bodhāya likhyate̍). This manuscript has the sections, ‘Upapātakaprāyaścitta’ and ‘Mahāpātakaprāyaścitta’.
Jaiminīya-Nyāyamālāvistara

A complete text with all 12 adhyāya-s of Vidyāraṇya Mādhavācārya’s summary accompanied by prose explanations of Jaiminī’s Pūrvamīmāṃsāsūtras. Mādhavācārya (d. 1386) was minister of King Bukka of Vijayanagar. The manuscript is written in different hands: in the first one-third, each adhikaraṇa is numbered by pada and adhyāya, and there are marginal notes, some extensive (6v).
Caraṇavyūha

A complete text of the Caraṇavyūha, a pariśiṣṭa (supplement) to the Vedas which gives information on the four Vedas, including their recensions. The colophon says, ‘iti caraṇavyūhaṃ nāma pañcamaḥ paraśiṣṭaḥ samāptimagāt, indicating it is the fifth pariśiṣṭa by Kātyāyana, to whom are attributed 18 pariśiṣṭa-s on the Śukla Yajurveda, or Vājasaneya (Mādhyandina) Saṃhitā (some manuscripts ascribe the work to Śaunaka; there is another version of the text that belongs to the Atharvaveda, see C.G. Kashikar 1994).

Pītāmbarasahasranāmastotra

A hymn to Bagalāmukhī, known as Pītāmbara-devī or Pītāmbarī because she wears yellow. The colophon says the text is from the Viṣṇu-Śaṃkara Saṃvāda of the Nāgendrapramāṇatantra, apparently a misspelling of Utkaṭaśābaranāgendraprayāṇatantra.
Rasamañjarī

A 15th-century work on kāmaśāstra by Bhānudatta Miśra, describing the condition of lovers of different ages. The author, also known as Bhānukara, was son of Gaṇanātha/Gaṇeśvara and grandson of Mahādeva of Videha.
